1. Break down your syllabus into parts

Start with a thorough analysis of your UPSC Civil Services exam syllabus. As they say, ‘know your enemy’ in advance, chart out the topics you struggle with.

2. Make a timetable that suits you

Always remember, do not make hectic and unrealistic study plans for UPSC. It will overwhelm you in just a few weeks and drain all your enthusiasm for preparation.

3. Assess yourself at each step

Once you start preparing for UPSC, monitor your progress at each step. During an assessment, the key points to note are the questions you got wrong in a test, the topics you failed to answer, and the tricky questions you got wrong because you didn’t remember the details.

Time management means prioritizing your subjects, planning things, and finding the answers for how you are going to complete the whole syllabus along with multiple revisions in a limited time period. For this, you should have a proper IAS Study Time Table. Time framework could differ from person to person. On average, Time Required to Prepare for IAS should be around 8 - 10 hours a day, that sounds too much but it’s needed to gain such prestigious designation.

In between all do's what you should not forget is what you should not do.

Here is the list that you should be committed to:-

1- Anything in UPSC doesnot stand above NCERT .

There are more elaborate editions and books on subjects ,you may or may not choose to develop a better understanding but don't forget to stick and return to NCERT.

2-Not having a study plan or routine

Without a proper routine you will always drown bewildering. Make a plan that best suits you, you can even experiment but to an extent that it leads you to a firm schedule .

Before appearing and preparing for the toughest exam ,ask yourself some questions so that you could start your journey with answers not dilemma that act as hurdles in the path .

Ask yourself:

1-What has motivated you to chose this career ,is it an external influence or your sole choice?

2-Is the motivation strong enough to pull you out of your comfort zones and keep you going?

3-This exam requires consistency. Will you be able to leave all behind and be persistent for couple of years?

4- Are you prepared to see , acknowledge and correct your mistakes. This is the most important aspect of any competitive examination.
